Common nose symptoms are more annoying than anything else. However, other diseases that affect the nose and its connections to the sinuses may be more ominous.

Some of these conditions include vascular malformations of the tissue lining the nasal cavity. Cancerous tumors can arise from these same linings.

Tumors that arise within the nose and paranasal sinuses may destroy local tissues and affect the eye or mouth. Blurred vision, double vision, loss of vision and asymmetry of the eyes may result.

Congenital or traumatic disorders can lead to communication of the nasal cavity with the intracranial cavity. This can produce spinal fluid leaks, headaches and meningitis. Some rare disorders, such as fungal infections or Leprosy, can destroy the cartilage of the nose, leading to progressive deformity.

Diseases that affect these areas also include cosmetic disorders that require nose jobs or eyelid surgery. Migraine headaches may cause symptoms that involve nasal congestion. Allergies occur as well as sinusitis.

Surgeons that treat these disorders include ENT surgeons, plastic surgeons, general surgeons and radiation therapists.

Drugs that may be used to treat these types of disorders include Zyrtek, Flonase, Nasonex and Imitrex.
